Fantastic! You are right… we do look for some narcissistic version of ourselves when looking for a match. We end up with a real person. And, if we can relax and enjoy the differences, we discover being loved in an even better way than we ever imagined.
I thought I wanted someone who showered me with flowers and cards. My late husband used to write love notes on my hand during church. He’d draw a letter on my open palm and make me guess. One alphabet letter at a time, he’d spell, “I love you.” Never did I imagine the simple beauty of such an act. It went way beyond any dozen of roses ever could.
Thank you for reminding me of that lovely moment.
