Oh my! Described my last relationship.

He would store up grievances and then wait for the perfect moment to release his targeted attacks. It was always done with such subtlety that I couldn’t be sure if the inflicted pain was purposeful or accidental. My gut knew, though, that he was getting his revenge. I’ve never met anyone who could stick the knife in better.

Leaving such a person is scary since abandonment is the one of the greatest injuries we can inflict on another person. Talk about an opportunity to create a narcissistic wound! I feared serious reprisals and had to play a longer con than his by waiting him out. It worked. I got free of him with only minor losses.

Whew! I don’t ever want to do that again.
