The fact you are struggling with the act of trying to be grateful all the time is a a sure sign that there’s more going on.
There will be a time for such takeaways, such as discovering what we are grateful for. When we will have the emotional capacity to find meaning to the current madness we are surviving, but it isn’t now. Now we are shocked, scared, feeling helpless, and combating hopelessness.
Now we are grieving.
Grief demands respect in that we do that process or it will bind us up and afflict us. I like how Kessler reminds us that if we want to heal, then we must give ourselves permission to feel the pain that comes with loss.
