This is a fascinating idea. Sherry Turkle, psychologist and MIT prof, has been warning about the unintended consequences of excessive cell phone reliance. Hmmm…maybe it’s a partial explanation.
I also think we’ve become a very self-absorbed society. More so than previous generations.
I started counseling in the mid-1980’s. The problems then were different. This was at the advent of SSRI’s, such as Prozac. Then it was expected to have to work to resolve issues, now we pop a pill.
So much has changed over the years, it’s hard to nail down the exact cause. If you read through others’ comments you will see lots of theory being floated.
