Yeah it does. Despite a life-time struggle to fit in, (and I consider myself very normal, whatever that means! LOL) this label helps to make sense of the things I do or feel.
Take conflict – it affects me to such a point I’m nearly paralyzed by it. Internally I meltdown and become increasingly non-functional. If the other person will just hold me for a second, then the feeling goes away and I can finish the discussion. So weird. But no wonder I hate conflict and will do about anything to avoid it.
So yeah, understanding the source of these odd quirky things about myself helps me make sense of what’s going on. I’ve been trying to manage internal stimulation and discomforts with as little external disturbances as possible. Now I can use the label to give myself greater permission for better self-care.
